STEM Education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that incorporates the application of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to real world problems utilizing problem-based learning. This approach engages and motivates students to learn, so that they will be prepared for the challenges and demands of a highly technological society.  

STEM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students will be accepted into the program if they have a B average in science and mathematics classes during the last two years of elementary school. They must also write a 250-word essay as to why they would like to be in the program.

STEM CURRICULUM
A high school STEM Certificate will be awarded to students who have completed the following requirements:

  • Enrollment in a math and science class for each of their four years in academy
  • One credit of Technology or Engineering electives, such as Robotics, App Development, Gaming, CAD and 3-D printing, an A+ computer certification, Introduction to Engineering, or any pre-approved and acceptable alternative from an accredited institution
  • A STEM portfolio or summer or academic year internship at a university or STEM industry
  • A drawing class of 0.5 credit
  • One credit of Project-Based Learning
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA in STEM classes
  • Completion of core requirements for an honors college prep diploma
  • Twenty hours of STEM-related community service credits (which will count towards highschool community service)
